Latifur Rahman
The Icon of Ethical Business
Latifur Rahman is still regarded as a towering emblem of business ethics. He was born in Jalpaiguri on August 28, 1948. He began his education at St Francis School before moving on to St Edmund's School in Shillong and St Xavier's in Kolkata. In 1965, he returned to Dhaka. In 1966, he started working as a trainee at W Rahman Jute Mills. Then, in 1972, he had to start all over again, from scratch.
Latifur Rahman was the chairman of Transcom Group, Bangladesh's largest corporate conglomerate, which he established. Transcom Group consists of 16 firms operating in 10 different industries, including medicines, electronics, media, soft drinks, tea, and others. It has a workforce of around 17,500 workers.
Transcom Group has expanded outside its borders and currently has activities in other countries. In honor of his business ethics, reputation, and integrity, Latifur Rahman earned the Oslo Business for Peace Award in 2012, which is regarded as the Nobel Prize of the business sector. He was Bangladesh's first entrepreneur to get this honor. Latifur Rahman and his Transcom Group continue to be role models in terms of tax paying. Latifur Rahman passed away on July 1, 2020, at his home in Chauddogram's village Cheora, Cumilla district. He was laid to rest in the Banani graveyard in Dhaka.
